Don't Pace the Frontier

AI could help create a dramatically better future. That future arrives faster when labs compete hard, ship often, and put capable models in as many hands as possible.

We the undersigned want AI labs to go at breakneck speed and give us the best models as fast as humanly possible, at reasonable prices. Capability and access for builders, researchers, students, and ordinary users should not be an afterthought.

Deliberate slowdowns and coordination to “pace the frontier” may reduce some risks—but they also delay benefits: better medicine, science, software, education, and tools people can actually use. Competitive pressure is not only a risk; it is one of the main reasons capabilities improve and prices fall.

We also want the fearmongering to stop. Real risks deserve serious engineering, evaluation, and proportionate policy—not apocalyptic marketing, status races over who can sound most alarmed, or indefinite pause as the only responsible posture. Hype in either direction is a poor substitute for building and measuring.

Safety research and responsible deployment still matter. Treating delay and scarcity as the default product does not. Competition that pushes quality up and price down is a feature—not a bug to be governed away.

We believe the default path should be open competition and rapid deployment, with safety work that runs alongside shipping rather than as a permanent brake. If labs and policymakers only hear from people who want to hit the brakes, the public that wants capability, access, and speed will be invisible. This statement exists so that side is counted.

  Release the strongest models on short cycles. Give people the best tools as soon as they are ready.
• Price fairly

  Compete on cost so students, builders, and startups can afford frontier tools—not only the well-funded few.
• Stop fearmongering

  Debate risks with evidence and engineering, not panic as a permanent headline.
• Safety that scales

  Invest in evals and defenses alongside shipping—not as an excuse to stall progress indefinitely.
